V-Day Festival- "Until the violence stops: NYC"- New York

Nadine Abou Zaki participated in the panel “Women in Conflict Zones” in V-Day Festival "Until the violence stops: NYC", New York. This panel was moderated by V-Day Founder and playwright Eve Ensler.

V-Day, the global movement to end violence against women and girls, sponsored UNTIL THE VIOLENCE STOPS: NYC, a festival of theatre, comedy, spoken word, and performance. UNTIL THE VIOLENCE STOPS brought the issue of violence against women and girls front and center in the culture and the community. For two weeks in June, via images, messages, conversations and a festival of theatre, comedy, spoken word and performance, UNTIL THE VIOLENCE STOPS (UTVS) took over New York, putting women, their empowerment and their safety center stage.

Over the course of two weeks, V-Day hosted 5 major events featuring performances and original works by over 60 artists. On the opening night of the festival on June 12, Jane Fonda played a leading role in the performance of Ensler's 2001 play, "Necessary Targets," about an American psychiatrist who travels to a Bosnian refugee camp to help a group of women grapple with the aftermath of war.

One June 13th, the day after the festival launches with “Necessary Targets”, a panel of women activists from conflict zones (including Afghanistan, Bosnia, Burma, Cambodia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, New Orleans, Rwanda, Sudan, Saudi Arabia) took up the issues of the play and launched V-Day's 2007 Spotlight Campaign: “Women in Conflict Zones”.
