"Socrates and Women" at the Hellenic Cultural Center – Beirut

Nadine Abou Zaki presented a paper on “Socrates and Women” during the “Philosophical symposium on Socrates- True Wisdom” at the Hellenic Cultural Center, Beirut, Lebanon.

Going against cultural and societal beliefs that women can never be equivalent to men, Socrates promoted beliefs dealing with the equality of women to men in key aspects regarding social status and function. Until that century, the topic of woman had never previously been part of radical rational thinking on ethical and social issues. In this sense, Socrates was not only revolutionary but he is still forward thinking even in today’s world and within contemporary thinkers.
